Sazerac

Rye, bitters and absinthe perfume from New Orleans.

Preparation

  1. 1Rinse a chilled old-fashioned glass with absinthe and discard any excess.
  2. 2Muddle the sugar with the Peychaud's bitters (and a few drops of water if needed) until dissolved.
  3. 3Add the rye whiskey and ice, then stir until well chilled.
  4. 4Strain into the prepared glass.
  5. 5Express the lemon peel over the drink and discard it or use it as a garnish.

Historical Background

A New Orleans landmark, the Sazerac reflects French, Caribbean and American bar influences.
